Waste Logistics Mobile & Web Platform

Results

This project was a strong example of how software can bring structure to a highly manual logistics process.
The main challenge was not only to build web and mobile applications, but to turn real operational workflows into a reliable digital system: load posting, matching, claiming, pickup confirmation, proof upload, payments, and admin control.
For an MVP with this level of marketplace logic, it was important to design a foundation that could support real users from the start and remain flexible for future growth.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
The client
The client is a U.S.-based logistics startup focused on modernizing how waste centers and haulers coordinate waste transportation.

The idea
The client partnered with SolveIt to build a full MVP ecosystem from scratch: web and mobile applications for waste centers, a cross-platform mobile app for haulers, and an admin panel for internal platform operations.

The impact
Waste transportation is still often coordinated through phone calls, fragmented communication, and existing business relationships. The platform addresses this gap by creating a centralized marketplace where loads can be posted, claimed, tracked, completed, and paid for in one place.
SolveIt mission
The client set out to transform manual waste transportation coordination into a scalable digital marketplace. The challenge was not only to connect waste centers with haulers, but also to support the operational logic behind every load: posting, matching, claiming, pickup confirmation, proof upload, payments, and admin control.
Turn the business logic into a full MVP ecosystem

SolveIt's mission was to turn this business logic into a full MVP ecosystem with separate experiences for waste centers, haulers, and admins, real-time operational updates, payment workflows, and a backend foundation ready for future marketplace growth.
goals
Build the MVP from scratch
Create the first version of the marketplace across web, mobile, backend, and admin.
Connect waste centers and haulers
Enable centers to post available loads and haulers to discover and claim relevant opportunities.
Support real-time operations
Implement push notifications, load status updates, claim locking, pickup confirmation, and auto-reposting logic.
Design role-specific experiences
Create web-first flows for waste centers, mobile-first flows for haulers, and control tools for admins.
Integrate payment workflows
Support waste center charges, hauler payout tracking, Stripe references, and configurable platform fees.
Ensure marketplace reliability
Add secure authentication, role-based access, audit logs, and admin tools for operational control.
Prepare for future growth
Build a modular backend and structured database to support post-MVP marketplace features.

THE SOLUTION
The platform was designed as a two-sided marketplace that brings waste centers and haulers into one connected operational flow. Instead of coordinating loads through calls, messages, and existing business relationships, users can manage the full load lifecycle digitally.
Admin panel
An internal control center where platform operators can approve users, manage loads, reassign shipments, override statuses, adjust platform fees, and monitor payments.

Web app for waste centers
A responsive web application where centers can create single, recurring, and bulk loads, manage pickup details, track statuses, and view payment records.

Mobile app for haulers
A cross-platform mobile application where haulers can set their service area, view matched loads, claim shipments, update progress, upload proof, and track payouts.
Mobile app for waste centers
A mobile application where waste centers can manage key load operations, receive updates, and track posted loads on the go.

Core platform logic
Real-time operations
Because load availability and pickup timing are critical, we integrated Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver push notifications across mobile and web experiences.
This helped reduce manual follow-ups and made coordination faster for both waste centers and haulers.

Notifications support key events, including:
New matched loads for haulers
Load claimed by a hauler
Auto-reposted loads
Pickup-related updates
Completion status changes
Operational alerts
Payments & platform fees
The product includes payment logic designed around completed loads, hauler payouts, waste center charges, and platform revenue.
Completed loads are processed through a structured payment cycle, with transaction records stored in the system.

Stripe integration supports:
payment processing
payment references
waste center charges
transaction history
configurable platform fees
admin payment oversight

Admin panel
For this logistics marketplace, the admin panel acts as an operational control center. This gives the client visibility and control over the platform during MVP launch and future scaling.

Override statuses
View audit history
Monitor payments
Adjust platform fees

Approve and manage users
Suspend or reactivate accounts
Search, filter, and reassign loads
Manage waste centers and haulers

Architecture
The platform is built around centralized backend services that connect all client applications.
Web App
React-based application for waste centers.
Mobile Apps
Cross-platform mobile applications for waste centers and haulers.
Admin Panel
React-based internal tool for managing users, loads, payments, and platform activity.

Database
PostgreSQL database storing users, waste centers, orders, transactions, and operational records.
Backend API
NestJS backend responsible for business logic, authentication, role-based access, and data communication.
The backend was structured into separate modules for users, waste centers, orders, transactions, notifications, authentication, and payments.

Key Features

UX/UI design
The product had no existing UX foundation, so the interface needed to be created from scratch around operational clarity and ease of use.
The main design priority was function: waste centers, haulers, and admins should be able to complete key actions with minimal friction – from posting and claiming loads to tracking payments and managing exceptions.
